Dave Granlund’s cartoons have been published in daily newspapers since 1977 and in weekly papers since the 6Os.
“Dave Granlund was born in Ware, MA and spent his early years drawing cartoons and caricatures of his family and classmates for entertainment. In high school he drew cartoons for his high school newspaper and the school yearbook. At the age of 16, he freelanced for his hometown weekly newspaper, The Ware River News, and has been published in daily newspapers and magazines since 1977. While attending college he drew local cartoons for the Greenfield Daily Recorder opinion page.”
Dave is a Vietnam era veteran. His 8-year U.S. Air Force enlistment included assignments with Headquarters Command, The White House, Air Force One and Air Force Two, and 4 years with the Strategic Air Command overseas. For his part in Operation Looking Glass, he was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal.
After his military service, Dave was hired as a full-time political cartoonist for the Middlesex News, later renamed the MetroWest Daily News from 1977-2008.
Nationally syndicated in 1978 with NEA-United Media, and later syndicated with GateHouse Media, Cagle Cartoons, Political Cartoons.com and the USA Today network. His work has appeared in over 1300 newspapers, including USA Today, Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Chicago Tribune, Politico, Newsday, and magazines such as The Week, Newsweek (USA and European editions) and shown nationally on MSNBC, ABC TV, FoxNews.com, NPR.org, HBO, CNN and NBC’s Today Show.
Currently, Dave draws 5-7 political cartoons per week from his home studio. Some of his sports cartoons are in the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Granlund’s newspaper awards include: UPI, New England Press Association, International Association of Business Communicators Award, Bronze Quill Award IABC, Associated Press, Massachusetts Press Association, and New England Press Award.
Married 50 years, Dave is a proud father and grandfather.
